Dr. Jothikani was a wonderful administratrix. She was an optimistic person radiating positive vibes to all persons around her. She was a visionary leader. Other than Mathematics, Dr. Jothikani also had interest in Tamil literature. Always, she enjoyed exploring the language. Dr. Jothikani was born in a very small village Subburayarpuram in Sathankulam taluk. She had her primary education in her village school. Though education was easily denied to girls in those days, Jothikani stubbornly persued her education as she had a burning urge to learn since childhood. Jothikani had to walk miles to nearby village, Mudalur to continue her Secondary Education in T.D.T.A.St.Michael's High School. She overcame all difficulties and pressures of orthodox society against her education. She had to fight with her parents to become a first graduate from her family.
Career :
Jothikani joined Govindammal Aditanar College, Thiruchendur as Principal in 1994. She served the college for 13 years and brought many laurels to the institution. Under her reign, the college flourished in many ways. She was particular in maintaining discipline in the College. While addressing the gathering, she used to stress on the importance of 'Character' among the students, as she believed in the College motto Character, Education and Enhancement. In her ripe old age, after her 60s, She obtained her Doctoraite of Philosophy in Education (Ph.D) from Alagappa University and proved that age is not an obstacle for any achievement. Even when there was decline in her health, she administered the College marvellously. She was a good Samaritan and used to help the poor students. She used to collect money from the willing staff members and pay fees for the poor students. Dr. Jothikani won high encomiums since she personally paid fees sumptuously from her pocket to the poor students. Dr. Jothikani was a unique woman who would be very soft, kind and affectionate to the faculty members as well as to the students. She possessed noble qualities. |
